ALT Alliance Launches “100 Boxes for 100 Kids”
in Chinatown
Families, educators, volunteers, and community organizations gathered at PS126 in Manhattan’s Chinatown for a cultural arts initiative that combined creativity, storytelling, and Lunar New Year traditions through hands-on workshops and specially designed craft boxes.

Bringing Art and Culture Together
The “100 Boxes for 100 Kids” initiative distributed 100 Lunar New Year craft boxes designed by OliOli, giving children and families access to creative resources and cultural learning experiences. Inspired by the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Horse, participants created horse-themed collages while learning about Chinese traditions and storytelling.

A Community Collaboration
The project was made possible through the collaboration of ALT Alliance, OliOli, Chen Rao, Committee of 100 (C100), Chinatown YMCA, PS126, and a dedicated team of volunteers. Together, these partners created an accessible and welcoming environment where families could learn, create, and connect through art.

Creativity, Learning, and Community Impact
The workshop encouraged creative expression, cultural storytelling, and hands-on learning while introducing participants to Chinese zodiac traditions. For many families, the event provided a rare opportunity to engage with arts programming in an interactive community setting and celebrate cultural heritage together.

Following the success of the event, ALT Alliance plans to develop a case study documenting the project’s impact and key learnings, while exploring future exhibitions that integrate art and creative technology and showcase works created by participating children.
