100 Boxes for 100 Kids
Art, Culture, and Community in Chinatown
ALT Alliance partnered with community organizations to bring 100 Lunar New Year craft boxes to children and families in Manhattan’s Chinatown. Through hands-on art activities inspired by the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Horse, participants explored Chinese culture through creativity and storytelling.

Participants assembled horse-themed collages, colored their creations, and learned about the symbolism of the horse in Chinese tradition. The workshop encouraged creative expression while introducing cultural stories in an engaging and accessible way.

The initiative was made possible through the collaboration of community organizations, educators, volunteers, and cultural partners. Together, they created a welcoming environment where families could learn, create, and connect.

By combining cultural education with hands-on art making, the program expanded access to creative resources and meaningful cultural experiences. The event demonstrated how community-centered arts initiatives can foster connection across generations and cultures.
