ALT Alliance invited young artists to explore memory through drawing, collage, and stop-motion animation—transforming a moment they remember into a film of their own.

See Memory is a three-time Emmy-nominated, hand-painted film by artist and filmmaker Viviane Silvera, created from more than 30,000 individually painted frames. Bringing together visual storytelling and neuroscience, the film explores how memory is formed, carried, and reimagined.

What Do You Remember?
A happy moment. A special place. A person you love. A small experience that stayed with you.​
Instead of starting with a blank page, children chose from simple shapes, characters, objects, colors, and textures—then combined and transformed them into something personal.​
Every memory became a different scene.

One Frame at a Time
How does a drawing begin to move?
Children learned the basic principle of stop-motion: move something a little, take a picture, and repeat.
With each tiny movement, their characters began to travel, meet, play, and tell a story.
Animation became something they could understand not only by watching—but by making.

Bring Your Memory to Life
At the animation stations, each young artist became a filmmaker.
With guidance from ALT teaching artists, children moved their handmade pieces across the stage little by little while each frame was captured. What began as paper, color, and a remembered moment gradually became a moving image.
Their memory was no longer still.
WATCH & CELEBRATE
Every Artist Gets a Premiere
At the end of the workshop, the room became our little cinema.
The completed animations were screened together on the big screen, giving every child the chance to watch something that had existed only as a memory an hour earlier become a film they created themselves.
We didn’t just watch animation.
We made it.
LEARNING THROUGH MAKING
Art, Memory & Imagination
Through one simple creative journey, children explored visual storytelling, sequential thinking, patience, and self-expression.
More importantly, they discovered that technology does not have to sit apart from art. A phone, a few pieces of paper, and an idea can become tools for telling a story that belongs entirely to them.
